Can't start after reboot because firefox process is already running but browser not open

Hi, I have a file backup program that automatically kicks off every evening. It generates a report to the browser.

I've found that when my XP PC reboots overnight due to some windows update activity and the backup process runs while I am not logged in, the firefox process is spawned but there is no browser instance there when I log in.

When I try to start firefox I am told it it already running and the browser won't open. I can find the firefox process running in task manager and kill it. This will allow me to restart the browser but I'd prefer to find some way to prevent this from happening.

Thanks
