I'm running Linux Mint 19.1 (Ubuntu 18.04 base). I bought and installed Mozilla VPN. The application installs and runs, but when I try to turn the VPN on I get the message "Background service error". There is no other information, and the VPN remains off.

The help page says "On first connection, the VPN will ask for admin permissions to make changes to your computer’s network settings." This does not happen.

Help also says that for linux the application is only compiled for Ubuntu, but I run a lot of Ubuntu applications on Linux Mint, and the VPN application installs and runs.

How can I proceed?

Hi there,

thank you for reaching out!

Technically our Mozilla VPN is not officially compatible with Linux Mint devices. For Linux, we currently offer only Ubuntu packages for the latest 2 LTS releases (Focal Fossa 20.04 and Bionic Beaver 18.4) and for the latest non-LTS release (Groovy Gorilla 20.10).

So far, we do not offer packages for any other linux distributions. But if you want to use mozilla vpn, you can take and compile the source code from the official github repository. (https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/mozilla-vpn-client/)

The README.md contains all the steps to compile the project. (https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/mozilla-vpn-client/blob/main/README.md)
