I am learning app development for firefox os.I installed a simulator for version 1.3 at my work place and it was working fine.I could write simple web app and run on the simulator. But when i installed the emulator on my home pc It was installed successfully but then was showing just a black screen.I am sure i have installed the correct version.I am using firefox 30.The simulator does show up in the app manager but when i start ,it just show a black screen.I don't understand why this is happening.I tried installing other versions like 1.4,but same thing happens for all the simulator addons.what could be the problem?

Hi prathamesh_13, Thank you for your question. There should not be a black screen, and is sounds like you have already reinstalled the simulator on the second computer. If the simulator does not show up on the app manager it may not have been properly installed.

Can you enable verbose logging: You can see messages logged from your app in the Web Console, which you can attach to your app using the App Manager. If you want to catch early messages happening during app startup, before the console gets connected and working, you can enable verbose logging in the Simulator.

Visit about:config and create a new preference. The preference name is different for each version of the Simulator:

   extensions.fxos_1_3_simulator@mozilla.org.sdk.console.logLevel for Firefox OS 1.3
   extensions.fxos_1_2_simulator@mozilla.org.sdk.console.logLevel for Firefox OS 1.2

Set it to the string value "all", and disable, then reenable, the add-on in the Add-on Manager. Now extra messages about the Simulator's operation will appear in the Browser Console.

Hi prathamesh_13, do you have a link to the bug you filed?

Also, what were the results when you reinstalled the simulator? ftp://ftp.eu.mozilla.org/pub/labs/fxo.../index.html

Hello prathamesh_13, Thanks a lot for letting us know about your problem. Really glad to know that you would like to develope apps for firefox OS. But apologies that simulator is not working in your home computer. Actually, it is a bug/problem of Simulator. I have also faced this type of problem. Below I will try to provide you a solution for that.

  1. Dowload [Firefox Portable] in your office computer.
  2. Unzip it and install that simulator in the portable Firefox.
  3. Then Copy the whole Portable Firefox Folder into a flash drive and transfer it in your home computer.
    1. I hope now you can use the simulator by the portable Firefox.

Please inform us if this solution worked on you. If not worked, we will try to investigate more to assist you.

Regards

Hi guigs2,

after reinstalling also it deosn't work, same results.I would like to point out that when i start the simulator the "based on Mozilla technoloy" splash screen is shown.Even when that is flashing the area for home and orientation button is black..I don't think this is bug in the simulator.Seems like it doesn't work on my home machine. As pointed out by a mozilla employee on stackoverflow it could be due to some graphics problem. Also , my machine in office is using intel chipset graphics and i have nvidia gt540 which is better than the other one.so i don't know how graphics could be an issue.

hi Safwan Rahman

This could work but due to security restrictions in software companies, downloads are not allowed so are flash drives.I would however try the same on the machine i am facing the issue.I would like to ask you whether you were facing exactly same issue?

regards, prathamesh

Hi Prathamesh_13,

I would suggest testing the simulator on Firefox Aurora or Firefox Nightly - which are newer, test versions of Firefox.

You also suggest the possibility of this being a video card issue. If this is the case, I would suggest attempting to Disabling Hardware Acceleration in your browser.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if your issue is resolved, or if you have any other questions. =)

Thanks,

- Ralph

Hi prathamesh_13,

Thanks for replying about this issue. First of all, can you try the abovue method in your home PC? Like installing simulator in the portable version from your home PC.

I was also facing the same issue in my friends computer. And I did the above method that I mentioned, and it worked that time.

You can try to do with in another computer where simulator works well.
