The Contacts Sidebar is blank when I write, reply to or forward an email. I have TB 91.3 running on Linux Ubuntu 21.1.

"Show Contacts Sidebar" shows a sidebar like in the attached image.

Please can someone help find a solution? I am not very technical so don't hesitate to explain in very simple terms. Assume I know nothing and you will be close to the truth.

My Google Contacts are linked to the Google Address Book by CardBook.

There's something wrong with your setup, as every TB profile has at least the 2 default address books, Personal Address Book and Collected Addresses. I don't know if this is caused by CardBook, but I suggest you disable CardBook and try syncing your Google Contacts with the built-in option: in Address Book, File/New/CardDAV Address Book, enter your gmail address, contacts are autodetected, enter the account password in the OAuth window to allow TB access. Cookies must be accepted in TB Preferences for OAuth to work.

Open Address Book, then View/Show Name As (press Alt if the Menu Bar is hidden). Make a different choice, e.g. First Last, then see if the contacts appear in the sidebar.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately it did not work. I have tried First Last, Last First and Show Name as Display Name. I stopped and re-started TB after each change, but still nothing worked.

Not sure what to do next

Check your address book - do the contacts have First, Last and Display entries? If they only have the Email field, click the icon at the end of the columns in the sidebar and select Email (see picture).

Thank you for your efforts, but nothing seems to work. I have tried all combinations of the settings in your image, but none makes any difference. There are still no data in the sidebar.

I am able to email multiple contacts by highlighting them in the address book and pressing write. This doesn't work if I want to forward an email to multiple contacts.

I suspect there might be a bug somewhere. Should I send a bug report to TB or would that just come to you anyway?

Sorry if I seem to not know what I am doing, but this is the first problem I have ever had in over 10 years using TB, so I am not sure how this system works.

Thank you again for your efforts.

Is it still empty if you choose another address book in the Address Book: drop-down at the top of the sidebar?

It does not give me a choice of address books. The only choice on the drop-down is "All Address Books."

IT WORKED! Thank you. I did not even know the solution existed.

Thank you for your help and patience with my lack of tech savvy.
