Hi all I have scoured the articles but found no solution to this. I reinstalled Firefox on my Mac, and somehow deleted all previous profiles. I did not have 'sync' enabled, nor a FF account.

I have found a places.sqlite file on my backup external hard drive. But my current profile has an places.sqlite file already. Can I merge them??? Or can I only replace?

If you only have places.sqlite or compressed .jsonlz4 backups from the bookmarkbackups folder then your only option is to replace all current bookmarks by replacing places.sqlite or by restoring a JSON backup.

In such a case you can create a bookmarks HTML backup and import this backup afterward.

It turns out I do not have the old files on the Mac backup after all, so lost. Thanks anyway

Location used for the main profile that keeps your personal data (Root Directory on about:profiles).

  • ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile>

In Mac OS X v10.7 and later, the "~/Library" folder in the Home directory is a hidden folder.
