eMails received in Thunderbird from Outlook have no formatting or attachments except winmail.dat

This is a corporate client. I can't tell them they are configured wrongly, especially as ALL my other email clients have NO PROBLEM displaying the message fully formatted and the attachments available. iPad, Android phone and Windows webmail all have no problem, nor do other people with whom they correspond complain. This is Thunderbird specific.
