Script fails on Firefox 52 (dev edition) but not other versions

Solution choisie

it turned out to be privacy badger. disabling it for the site (within the addon) was not sufficient to solve the problem. addon had to be disabled from the tools menu. filed a bug w/eff which has been fixed.
