Emails were deleting themselves on their own

I was typing on my computer this morning and all of a sudden emails started deleting themselves very quickly. I closed out of Thunderbird and restarted my computer, but some draft emails and a week of deleted emails seem to be gone from the computer (I haven't checked all of the files to see if more were deleted). Is there anything I can do to retrieve those emails and what could have caused this problem?

Also, I find it frustrating that I can't contact Mozilla technicians for support, although I appreciate community help.
