You could install Thunderbird where you like, but it will place a significant file in your AppData folder.

I suggest you install Thunderbird. It will by default install into your default programs folder. Now read up about the Thunderbird profile, and when you feel comfortable with it, copy your profile to your SSD and set up profiles.ini to find it in its new place.

You can edit profiles.ini by hand, or you can use Thunderbird's Profile Manager to make the changes.

Thank you Zenos, I had suspected that that may be the solution. I just lacked the experience and I suppose the confidence to try it in a new PC that I wished to keep as clean as possible from the start. I will follow the guidance, very carefully, and after all is OK transfer my existing emails, suitably tidied down, from my current PC. Regards, Wobit.
