How do I stop all those annoying, very thin popup banners that show up at the bottom of the page? I am tired of these unwanted banners.
At the very bottom of most pages, I get these thin, annoying banners all the time. They relate to so many different things it is difficult to list them all. From Facebook page info to adverts. They do have a very small x at the end (be careful which x you chose) that will close them down but not all can be done away with. Some just fold to the side of the page. I still do not want these annoying banners.
How do I get rid of them? I've tried everything listed on the help pages and nothing is working.
Here is a screen shot of what I am talking about: http://imgur.com/LVPtbJG

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
- Microsoft Safety Scanner
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility
- Hitman Pro
- ESET Online Scanner
Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Some websites have these banners programed into the website so that they are not detected by AdBlock Plus.
I looks at your plugins and I am wondering if maybe it if the Facebook Video Calling Plugin.
Try disabling this plugin to see if the issue will go away.
If you have another internet browser try this to see if it is a Firefox extension/plugin or just the website:
- Open a webpage with a banner on Firefox
- Open the same webpage in a different browser (eg. Chrome, IE, Opera, etc.)
Report back and tell me if there were banners on both browsers or just one. Also, please post a link of a website with a banner.
NOTE: Screenshots can be added on the support forum, via the Browse... button. Because of viruses and malware always being a threat, people are less likely to open the links with the pictures because of the infection threat.
I have tried a whole bunch of anti-spyware programs but I will go ahead and give this list a go. Thanks for your help
I just disabled the facebook calling plug in. I will browse around for awhile and get back here to let you know if it worked. Thanks for the help!
It appears that none of the suggestions have worked thus far. I have gotten pop ups back while just doing some normal browsing. Here is a screen shot of the other type of pop up I am getting:
It appears that the pop ups are just somehow deeply embedded into the browser or system software, but I can't say for sure
Have you disabled all addons from Firefox Button > Addons > Extensions ?
Disable them all as this seems like malware, or scan with Adwcleaner
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
- Open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.
Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
Please report back with your results.
Normally, you would expect an extension to be involved when a webpage is being altered. Firefox's Safe Mode is one way to switch all extensions off for testing.
You might also check whether your connection is made through a proxy. You can review and change that setting here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Network
Click the "Settings" button. "No Proxy" and "Use system settings" should use your Internet Explorer / Windows connection settings. If you have something else, try one of those. Of course, if you have this same issue in IE, then that probably won't help.
Installing AdBlockPlus, stopped the banner ads along the bottom for me.
