How do I reduce the width of the book marks page, so that the sub divisions within the folders opens on the right, not squezzed to the left. Never was this way in earlier versions.

If the menu list opens to the left then it is possible that you have bookmarks with a long title. Firefox 4 tries to show the full title of the bookmarks. So you can check the list and shorten the name of bookmarks that have a long name.
