Type about:profiles<enter> in the address bar. How many profiles are listed? How many should be there?

Thank you so much for your reply. I tried about:profiles,interesting stuff but I've only got 2 listed and they are both from today after I did a refresh. So it seems as though it has started remembering history again but only from today. At least it's working but I've lost the past! Thank you once again.

Firefox stores the history in the places.sqlite database file in the profile folder. You can try to restore and older copy of places.sqlite. Note that you lose bookmarks that have been added since the date this backup got created, so best would be to create and HTML backup before trying restore an older places.sqlite copy if one is available.

You can check in Windows Explorer if there is a previous version of the places.sqlite file available.

Thank you.I was wondering if Windows stored history somewhere else. I found previous versions from your info.Loads of files but sadly no places.sqlite.Thanks for your help,but it looks like I've lost it all,but at least I've got it remembering from Mon.
