An alleged ad-blocking add-on just came up unbidden.
A started Firefox upon booting up my computer as usual, but rather than my designated home page---which briefly appeared---a high-intensity hype for some alleged ad-blocking add-on outfit appeared. I already have Adblocker Plus, and I didn't recognize the name of this intruder, but what gives? How would some outfit manage to do this?

Thank you. I should have paid more attention, but by the time I was really concerned, I had deleted it. Fortunately, I did not authorize anything. My principal concern was that it came up by itself in place of my home page. I saw nothing suspicious in my list of add-ons.

What is the name of this intruder? Have you checked your add-ons for this or anything you don't recognize?
It’s very sad, but many software downloaders/ installers will trick you into installing not only their program, but other programs as well.
You have heard of the fine print in shady contracts, right? Well, some installers you need to look at the itsy bitsy teeny weeny fine print.
You are thinking you are giving the installer permission to install the program you want by using the recommended option. But if you use the Manual Option Instead, you discover all kinds of stuff that you do not even know what it is or what it does.
From now on, everyone needs to Use The Manual Option to put a stop to this.
Note that these programs can also change browser/computer settings.

That was very good work. Well done. Please flag your last post as Solved Problem so others will know.
And remember my warning about installers.
