How do I extend the period before messages in the "Delete" folder are permanently deleted?

When I delete an e--mail, it appears in the Deleted folder for a few days and then seems to disappear and be unrecoverable. I can find no way to control this and I would like to retain these e-mails for a lengthier period. How do I achieve this?

I hadn't realised I have the facility to adjust the parameters of individual folders. I made the necessary adjustments and all seems to be working as I want. Thanks.
