Hi,

how can I stop the site "www.istartpageing" from appearing as my first tab when I open Firefox. I have set my default start page as "about:blank"

It somehow attached itself to the list of search engines, so I deleted it, and all others except Google.

I can. of course, get rid of it by opening a blank tab and closing the "istart...." one, but that is a pain.

I want rid of it altogether. How can I do this?

Hi Tony, You probably still have modified browser shortcuts. You will need to check and edit them. The rogue site address will have been appended and will need removing.

General Firefox advice is in these articles:

  2. What to do when searches take you to the wrong search website

Note it will be worth checking using all the tools listed in the first link as often once one piece of malware has a toehold other adware or malware may have got in. No single tool finds everything.

Specific instructions and advice from two well respected sites

Hi, firstly, note that Firefox can open multiple home pages with their URLs separated by a 'pipe' (|). So please see How to set the home page, and make sure that in 'Home Page' there is only about:blank. If there is anything else you can delete it.

So now try working through How to remove Istartpageing.com redirect by Malware Tips.

Note that not all removal programs will detect all malware, so you may need to run several or all of them.
