I accidentally deleted the mails in the INBOX folder. I backed up that folder regularly and from the size of the backup files I believe they contain the mails I deleted. I also believe I backed up the INBOX folders before I compacted the folders. I've tried several ways to recover the mails without success. I tried simply copying the backup to the INBOX folder and that did'nt solve the problem.

Does anyone have a suggestion for recovering the deleted mails?

have you compacted yet? If not install this add-on to undelete them https://freeshell.de//~kaosmos/index-en.html#recDelMsg

You can open the backup mail file with a text editor to determine whether the messages are there. Note, mail files are the ones without a file extension, e.g. like Inbox.
