This feature is experimental and is being introduced to the Firefox user base through a progressive rollout. It may not yet be available to all users.
You can still use other sign-in methods, such as a password, Google, or Apple, when available.

What is passwordless login?
Passwordless login lets you sign in or sign up using a one-time password (OTP) sent to your email.
Here’s how it works:
- You enter your email address.
- Mozilla sends a one-time code to that address.
- You enter the code to complete sign-in or sign-up.
This method:
- Reduces the number of steps during registration.
- Removes the need to remember a password for supported services.
- Keeps your account secure using email verification.
Use passwordless login
The sign-in experience depends on your account and the service you are accessing.
Enter your email address
- Go to the Mozilla service you want to use.
- Enter your email address.
- Select .
Mozilla automatically determines the correct sign-in method based on:
- Whether your email is linked to an existing account
- Whether you already have a password
- Whether the service supports one-time codes
- Whether your account is linked to Google or Apple
Enter the one-time code
If passwordless login applies to your account, you’ll see the code entry screen.
- Check your email inbox.
- Copy the one-time code.
- Enter the code on the verification screen.
- Complete sign-in.
The screen also shows when the code expires. If it expired, you’ll have an option to request a new code.
You can use passwordless login if:
- You are creating a new account for a service that supports email codes
- Your existing account does not have a password set and is not linked to Google or Apple
If your account has a password, you will be asked to enter it instead. If your account is linked only to Google or Apple, you will be prompted to continue with that provider.
Troubleshoot one-time code issues
I did not receive the code
If you do not see the email:
- Check your spam or junk folder.
- Make sure you entered the correct email address.
- Wait a few minutes and select .
If you still do not receive the code, try signing in again and carefully re-enter your email address.
My code expired
One-time codes expire after a short period for security reasons.
If your code expires:
- Return to the code entry screen.
- Select .
- Enter the new code sent to your email.
Always use the most recent code you receive.
Add a password later
Some users may want to add a password after signing up with a one-time code.
To add a password:
- Sign in to your Mozilla account.
- Go to your account settings.
- Select the option to set or add a password.
- Follow the instructions to create a secure password.
Adding a password may be required to use services such as Firefox Sync.
For more details, see Change your Mozilla account password.
Frequently asked questions
Is passwordless login secure?
Yes. Each one-time code:
- Is sent only to your verified email address
- Expires after a short time
- Can only be used once
This reduces the risk of password reuse or weak passwords.
Why does Firefox Sync still require a password?
Firefox Sync uses end-to-end encryption that relies on your password to protect your data. As a result, a password is still required for Sync.
Can I still use Google or Apple to sign in?
Yes. If your Mozilla account is linked to Google or Apple, you can continue using those providers to sign in.
