Firefox cannot recover sessionstore.js

I recently installed FF 5.0 for Mac and have been using tab groups for my research. FF started running slowly today, so I shut it down and re-opened it. When it re-opened, my tab groups were gone.

To try to force a recovery, I entered about:sessionrestore in the address bar. It showed the following message: Firefox is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs. This is usually caused by a recently opened web page. There were no sessions listed in the select box.

So then I went into Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/xcquf6zf.default and backed up sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak. I opened them in a text editor and was able to see the urls from my saved tabs and groups.

Next, I closed FF and deleted sessionstore.js. I copied sessionstore.bak and renamed it sessionstore.js. I reopened FF. The tab groups still had not been restored.

I assume that sessionstore.js and .bak are corrupted in some way. They are not big files, only 150K with 3 tab groups and maybe 30 saved files.

I would like to know if I can recover my urls, but more importantly, I need some assurance that I cannot so easily lose my tab groups. They're useless for research if FF is so unstable.

Thank you for your help.
