I find solutions to Thunderbird demanding that some browser accept cookies, but the solutions involve going to the three-bar menu and selecting 'Options'. On 52.2.1 on Mint there is no such choice on the three-bar menu, so I cannot try the proposed solutions to "Gmail won't take login for new account from Thunderbird, says cookies are disabled"

Look under Edit/Preferences/Privacy, and if you can't see the Menu Bar press Alt or right-click at the top and enable it.
