When trying to restore ff from minimised it flashes across the screen but no window appears. I've searched google for info but can't find anyhing. FF10/windows7. It seems to be random as I can't identify a trigger for this behaviour.

When trying to restore ff from minimised it flashes across the screen but no window appears. I've searched google for info but can't find anything to a location near the top left I thought it might be minimised a 1 pixel by one pixel but even with magnification tool on maximum I can't find the missing window. I can open a new window from the task bar but it opens at the top left in a small window about 200x50., but I can drag it to a reasonable size and position. FF10/windows7.

In Firefox 4 and later Safe mode disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.

Try to disable hardware acceleration.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

Cor-el thanks for your suggestion but as this problem is happening on 3 of my machines, each with a different graphics card I don't think this is the problem. My guess is that is down to the same misbehaving plug in I have on each machine.

I know I can try disabling them one by one but since I run about 20 I was hoping someone might be able to suggest which one(s) to look at first.

Does running Firefox in Safe mode help?

Did you at least try to disable hardware acceleration if it works in safe-mode?

Such a test only takes a short time and can easily be undone.
Testing for misbehaving extensions takes a lot more time with all the restart involved.

If you have many extensions then first enable half of the extensions to test which half has the problem.
Continue to divide the bad half that still has the issue until you find which one is causing it.

We only can do some guesses if you post a list of your installed extensions and themes.
