I have firefox ver 9.0.1 and have a Wireless 3G connection. If this connection is "active" (connected), and I try to open Mozilla Firefox, NOTHING HAPPENS .. until I DISCONNECT, and CLOSE my "MTN ONLINE" connection Software. THEN I usually get about 3 to 4 "page not found" messages. After Closing all but one of these, and the RECONNECTING AGAIN, and clicking on "Try Again" .. only THEN does firefox work. WHY is this ??? Why will Firefox NOT START when I am connected (via 3G) to the internet ?? Also, if I WAS connected via Firefox, but then had to close the browser, when I try to reopen firefox (whilst connected) the same thing happens, and I must first DISCONNECT my Wireless 3G connection, Close the MTN ONLINE software, and ONLY THEN does firefox start up with the Same problem as stated above. .... THIS Is NUTS!

Chosen solution

It could be that Firefox is also trying to detect the proxy settings. You can select No Proxy in Tools (Alt + T) > Options > Advanced > Network > Settings and see if that helps. By default Use system proxy settings is selected and I think Firefox sometimes may take some time for detecting. Please also see this.

Hi,

Please try enabling Always dial my default connection and Set Default in the OS Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections tab.

Hi Vivek.Wilfred; Thank you for the suggestion. I tried it out, but THAT solution just gave me even more grief, 'cause even opening a .pdf file (when NOT connected), it results in "trying to make a connection .. Fail", and then "locks up" my CPU at 100% usage, which then Freezes the PC and I then have to press RESET to reboot, and loose all my work. This 3G modem is like your Cellphone, it uses a DATA SIM Card, and to connect to the internet, it requires to be connected via my Service Provider = MTN ONLINE. (This is NOT a LANDLINE connection), and needs to have "Never Dial a Connection" set. But thanks anyway. I'm sorry your suggestion did not help.

Sorry about that. As I understand it 3G connection is just another type of PPP connection like dial-up. Only then it will appear in the Internet Options > Connections tab other than a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection. You can also try to set it to Dial whenever a network connection is not present. If the 3G connection isn't listed then I was wrong in suggesting this. Sorry again.

Thank you Wilfred, I will try that and see what happens. If successful, I will let you know. Regards Pixie.

Hi Wilfred, The 3G connection is listed (as Default) but if I set it to Dial whenever a network connection is not present, and I open ANY file, It immediately tries to connect, and I get an Error 633. I then reset the default to MTN DATA, and deleted the MTN 3G. This works just fine, except that every-time I open ANY File (when not connected) it immediately dials to the internet and connects automatically. So OK, it does it's job, but I had to return to "Never Dial a Connection" after all, because Each Time it "connects", it just wastes / depletes my Data Cap, and THAT I cannot afford. However, the Problem of "FF Not Starting when I AM connected", still remains irrespective of my OS Internet connection Setting. However, I thank you for your interest, and your contributions, and I am now just going to consider the matter as UNSOLVED. AS I SEE IT, my problem is NOT - "Not being able to connect" it is that WHEN CONNECTED, FireFox Won't Open until I DISCONNECT . STRANGE!

Hi Wilfred, YES, That definitely helped. NOW I can safely say .. YOUR SOLUTION WORKED. Thank you Sooo Much. Now when I'm Connected, FireFox Opens normally (in about 15 secs). You have solved my problem. Hugs to you. Pixie
