Firefox always boots in safe mode even if I have exited it previously!!

Firefox would not open, I got an error that it was already running, which happens frequently. I restarted the PC and it would only run in safe mode. Since then, I have restarted a number of times. Started in safe mode, exited, and did a system restore. Still, it will only start in safe mode.
