How can I update an old email address for FF Crash Reporter?

When FF crashes, a dialog box asks me for a description and proposes an email address for for FF investigators to contact me. But the email address proposed to contact me is an old email address. I can edit it before sending the crash report, but where can I update the email address that it proposes?

The next time Firefox crashes, just change the address. As to any old reports, don't worry about them.

You can check if you see this email address in the crashreporter.ini file that is located in the same folder as the crash reports.

Thanks, cor-el, but ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Crash Reports/ in my MacOS 10.6.8 has no such file.

I explored the neighborhood of that folder including the Firefox folder above it.

I actually found my email address in a few files. (e.g., /Users/gil/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/j8ahy0ks.default-1444407795343/sessionstore-backups/previous.js). However, it was my new email address, not the obsolete old one.

I checked: /Library/Application Support has no Firefox folder.

Perhaps it's someplace else.

Thanks, Fred. Good suggestion; I'll certainly do that.

I just spent over a year purging my old email address from my correspondents' records so that I could move to a new Registrar and ISP.

The old and the new were both working in parallel for years. Then, several months ago, when I thought I had got all my correspondents switched over, I let the old ISP and Registrars go, making my old email address invalid.

So when this one showed up, I realized I had missed one. Perhaps, as you say, it's not important. But I'd rather know where it's kept, so that I can be sure.

Thanks for your reassurances.

--Gil, who is perhaps a bit obsessive about these things.

Looks that on Mac the crashreporter.ini file is in the same location as the Firefox application folder.

Go up two levels to see if you find the MacOS folder.

Hi, cor-el--

I found the file, 68 text lines, but none contain any email address. It does have a few lines which seem pertinent:

CheckSendReport=Tell %s about this crash so they can fix it CheckIncludeURL=Include the address of the page I was on CheckAllowEmail=Allow %s to contact me about this report EmailGrayText=Enter your email address here

Looks like the routine that uses this file must enter my email address from somewhere. But where?

Thanks for your help.

That looks like a different crashreporter.ini file that stores the localized strings to use in the crash reporter window.

Thanks, cor-el, for your helpful research.

I think I can let this go now.
