Firefox disables add-ons, which can't be re-enabled.

The Diigo toolbar just stopped working, because the Firefox people have decided that add-ons-- even though they're all being killed-- need to be signed,. If they aren't, the users are punished.

I read the post from the guy upset that you killed RoboForm and saw the snippy comment from the Rectal Puff who answered, saying, condescendingly, that it's his fault for not knowing about about:config "xpinstall.signatures.required."

Mine is set to "false" and it still won't let me use my toolbar. And I'm not beta-tasting-- I'm on 41.0.1 and disabled update notifications because of stuff like this.

This is a bug which needs to be fixed.

The other bug that needs fixing is that ... with no real understanding of enterprise security (I actually do work in security) should not be able to just break users because something bothers them.

Could you go back to the Add-ons page and check a couple things for me. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then find Diigo on the right. If it is disabled, it will be toward the bottom on a grayed background.

(1) On Firefox 41 with default settings, unsigned extensions are not blocked. You should see a "Proceed with Caution" notation on the Add-ons page for unsigned extensions, but it shouldn't prevent you from enabling the extension. Does yours say it is completely blocked because it is unverified? That would be a bug.

(2) What version do you have? You probably need to click a More link to get this information. It seems that Diigo has not been updating the extension hosted on Mozilla Add-ons site, since that still has version 5.1.0.38 from 2013. Meanwhile, on the company's website they offer 5.1.0.44. If you have the older version, try installing the newer one from the following page and see whether it works better:

https://wiki.mozilla.org/Addons/Extension_Signing No problem with Firefox 40 - 42 which will have a warning message only. Extension signing enforcement has been pushed back to Firefox 43, which will have the mentioned "override" pref. The alternative is to use an unbranded version which doesn't have that "feature" - details of which Mozilla hasn't been posted yet. Or use a 3rd party build of 'Firefox'.
