On restart of Thunderbird (on OSX), message compose windows gone

I had several open message compose windows in which I was writing replies. Thunderbird was restarted for upgrade. On restart, message compose windows were not reopened to previous state.

The messages you were composing are probably saved in your drafts folder. You can open the drafts folder and see teh messages listed. Then select the message you want and click the Edit button.
