It appears to the left of the url field. I remove it by dragging into the Customize dialog. If I close and restart Firefox, it is back.

How do I get rid of this? It is not listed in extensions nor in plugins.

Chosen solution

In order to uninstall a possibly unwanted extension, please do the following:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and choose Add-ons.
  2. Once the Add-on Manager has opened in a new tab, click the Extensions button on the left side of the window.
  3. You should now see a list of your installed extensions on the right side together with buttons on the right side of each extension.
  4. To remove an extension from Firefox, simply click the Remove button. You should see a message that informs you about the successful removal of the add-on.
  5. Note that some add-ons require a Firefox restart to be removed completely. To perform a Firefox restart after the add-on removal, click the Restart now link in the message.

How annoying. I must have had an earlier version of Readability on my previous computer because it did not do this.

The options for that extension have ONLY a place to specify hotkeys--nothing else. No way to turn off kindle.

How much more disrespectful could an extension be than to say "I know you always want every part of my functionality so I won't let you disable any part of it." Good grief. A real blast is headed to their Facebook page.

I would like to mark a post as the solution, But I cannot mark my own post. The solution is to uninstall the Readability extension since its extra icons cannot be disabled, so would someone please suggest that so I can mark it.

By the way, there is anther extension, Readable, currently 0.8, that works fine.

I don't want to uninstall the extension. I love the Readability function...to open pages so that you actually can read them instead of the font the 20-something web designers put on the page.

But the extension puts these two EXTRA icons LEFT of the urladdress bar. You can remove them into the 'customize' window, but they return after the next boot. Also you cannot make them stay over in the area to the right of the address bar.

Oh, I see that before, I asked for a post I could mark as the solution... I don't WANT to uninstall it, but that seems to be the only solution possible.

Please read this post. https://support.mozilla.org/fr/questions/995019 From Gingerbread Man : " Type about:config into the address bar and press Enter.

Press the big button to bypass the warning.
In the search box, paste extensions.readability.first_run_complete
In the search results, double-click extensions.readability.first_run_complete to set its value to true
   Restart Firefox.
Right-click an empty area of the tab bar and choose Customize. Place Readability's icons wherever you like. "

The problem you're describing is a bug in the add-on. I can confirm it, as do others who've posted reviews. Contact the authors of the add-on using either the "Support site" or "Support e-mail" links on the add-on's description page.
