About 10 days ago, Thunderbird 68.12 has just started crashing on me on a regular basis. I normally have Thunderbird open for many many hours even days at a time without problem. Now, when I come back to my computer after several hours on nonattendance, it has almost always crashed. I crashes about twice per day.

I can't work out what has changed. I downgraded back to 68.11 but that kept crashing too.

I have been unable to upgrade past 68.12 due to google calendar provider not being supported. I will look into this again.

Here's a selection of crash reports. It would be helpful to know if there is anything obvious that it is crashing over. You should try starting Thunderbird in safe mode (no add-ons) to see if it's the same. I suspect an add-on doing this and if safe-mode is OK then you will need to disable the add-ons one by one till you'll have no errors anymore

I was kind of hoping for some specific information from the crash dumps rather than generic troubleshooting. I don't know exactly what the crash dump means but to me it looks like it might be doing some IMAP operations when it dies. The crash time is very close to when I received a junk email that a rule moves to my junk folder.

I only have two addons install and they are lightning and google calendar provider so if those are the problem, then I am not going to leave them disabled till the problem is fixed. It seems unlikely that it is them anyway given the crash dump.

Yep, looks like an IMAP operation and big files with some server types. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1586494 I have interpreted wrong in my last post cause those 2 add-ons are working correct I assume

Google calendar provider is now supported on v78. I have upgraded to that and will see if that makes any difference. Although, given that bug you just linked (which seems like what I am experiencing), it may not be fixed.

Google calendar provider is definitely supported, starting at version 78.2.0 a couple weeks ago https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/provider-for-google-calendar/

Your crash unfortunately is common, but not solved. Sorry I don't have better news.

If you can narrow down a method of reproducing the crash it would be immensely helpful.

What AV software do you run?

Windows Defender

After my upgrade to Thunderbird v78, the problem has not reoccurred. I'm not going to say "fixed" because this was a weird problem as I had been running TB 68.11 and 68.12 for many weeks when it just decided to start crashing and now it looks like it has just decided to stop crashing,

Thanks for the update.

I think Thunderbird likely hasn't changed anything in this area that would fix such a crash. So I'm inclined to think some aspect of interaction with other software has changed.
