Hi, I'm probably doing something really basic and facepalmingly easy to fix but pls have patience with this n00b.... My email hosting with Crazy Domains expired a couple of months ago, I only just managed to get it reconnected. When I opened Thunderbird again I kept getting the error msg "Failed to connect to server". I checked all the account settings, they're all fine AFAIK. Updated to latest version of Thunderbird, tried restarting the program and did the obligatory IT Crowd "troid torning it off and on again", still getting same message.

Plaaaaiiss ..... Halllp!

Regardless of my typo. What is important is that there is nothing in DNS or whois about the domain.

Look their own whois server shows it pending delete, expired in April. http://www.crazydomains.com.au/whois/littleredfoxdesign.com/#result

Until such public information is corrected your not likely to be able to connect because Thunderbird can not find the server. There is no DNS record to point to it.

(This is probs obvious but it's when I'm trying to Get Messages that the error comes up. Tried sending a test email from an Outlook account to the Thunderbird address and it failed to send.)

You'll need to obtain the correct server settings from your email provider. Once you have that, please post them here (or a link to a support site).

SSL NO

You have SSL turned on in your account settings. Turn it off (no security).

No luck with that.. I tried both of the top 2 options on the Authentication method menu.

The account settings were different before, the "ports" or whatever; when the hosting expired and they re-set it up there were a couple new details they sent me and I just changed those details in Thunderbird settings to match the new ones they gave.... is that right?

(I tried using "encrypted password" and password transmitted insecurely)

um I don't know how to say this. But have you actually tried going to your web site using a browser. I did and was informed that the site did not exist.

Server not found
Firefox can't find the server at www.littleredfoxdesign.com.

I tried looking up the domain at DNSstuff. Their reply is

Input domain littleredfoxdesign.com is not recognized.
Please run the DNSReport with proper input.

So I went to crazy domains. Crazy domains show the domain as available for $11.49. See http://www.crazydomains.com.au/domain-names/search/?domain=littleredfoxdesigns.com

So I think the real issue is you have not yet actually sorted things out with crazy domains. Or if you have they have not done anything with that information

I just have the name for now, haven't had a website made yet. There's no "s" at the end, it's just littleredfoxdesign.com, idk it's coming up as "Backorder" on the Crazy Domain site. I've just emailed them to check why it's not working, they sent me a confirmation email a couple days ago though to confirm it was ready to go and give me the new setup details. GAH >:-(

Thanks man, after I emailed them they realised and refunded what I just paid them, apparently it's gonna be relisted in a few days.
