Two days ago I began getting this message when I tried to access Facebook. I've cleared the cache and taken all of the usual steps to no avail. Everything else on Firefox is running normally. Facebook is the only website that won't load. I CAN access it via cell phone, but use this for a nonprofit so really needed access on a desktop too. Thanks.

That message usually indicates a problem with cookies, such as:

  • corrupted cookies
  • blocked cookies

Cache and Cookies: When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

See: How to clear the Firefox cache

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, click the lock icon at the left end of the address bar. After a moment, a "Clear Cookies and Site Data" button should appear at the bottom. Go ahead and click that.

In the dialog that opens, you will see one or more matches to the current address so you can remove the site's cookies individually without affecting other sites.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Also, do you use the Facebook Container extension? That blocks Facebook access from other sites, so it can create unpredictable issues when moving from non-FB to FB. However, if you are going directly to https://www.facebook.com/ that shouldn't be a problem.

Thank you. I removed Facebook container and did everything you asked multiple times. Nothing changed this. I tried getting into Facebook with Edge and it just loops in the address bar and goes nowhere. The only way I'm able to get Facebook to open on a computer is to use Internet Explorer which I'd rather not do.

Facebook still runs normally on my cell phone (Android) but what's happening on the computer is madness.

Is there any difference if you try Facebook in a private window? You can either right-click a link to FB and use Open Link in New Private Window, or press Ctrl+Shift+p to open the window and then go to Facebook.

No. It went to the Facebook log-in page (Facebook.com) and then, once I entered our email address and password, it gave me the same old redirect error.

I really appreciate your continued help.

I overlooked your note on MS Edge. Does your computer have any "parental control" software that could be affecting access to websites? Or other kinds of filtering features of your security software?

Sometimes problems that affect multiple browsers indicate a glitch in your router, the box provided by your internet service provider. However, if your cell phone browser can get into FB on wi-fi through the same router, then that's not the most likely point of filtering/glitching. If it can only get in on a mobile network and not wi-fi, then it's worth a try power-cycling the router at a time when no one is actively using it: unplug it for 10 seconds and then plug it back in.

I'd already reset the router, good suggestion, and only have the usual spyware set up. I don't have any parental controls.

Oddly, I was able to click on a link on a website and get to a Facebook page yesterday, but then was unable to get into a second page. I've been unable to get into any Facebook page since.
