ZTE Open C only scans 11 Wi-Fi channels (not 13 or 14)

My Wi-Fi access point (a home router) operates on channel 13. ZTE Open C does not detect this network unless I set the channel to 11 or less. For my home network there's an easy workaround (though I may lose some speed) but I'm worried if I'll be able to scan other public networks. Is it possible to alter the phone config so it will scan for all available networks?

Hi choco-banana,

The supported network types are: WEP WPA-PSK WPA-EAP

The only - non-overlapping 2.5GHz wireless network channels in the U.S. are 1, 6 and 11.

"In the USA, 802.11 operation in the channels 12 and 13 are actually allowed under low powered conditions. The 2.4 GHz Part 15 band in the US allows spread-spectrum operation as long as the 50-dB bandwidth of the signal is within the range of 2,400–2,483.5 MHz[11] which wholly encompasses both channels 12 and 13."http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels

If there are networks that are remembered, you can manage them the Settings options. However, if there is a limit to the number in this list what is the maximum you are seeing? There is a scan again option for detecting new networks. If you toggle this, they should be detected.

I wonder if its below 2.5 it is not being detected? What kind of network is the home network? Password protected? [WEP, WPA-PSK,WPA-EAP?]

It's 2.4 GHz, the security is WPA2-AES. As I said, I can detect the network after re-scan and connect to it in Firefox OS if I set the channel to 11 on the router but I it does not show up if I set it to 13. There are no restrictions on channels 12 and 13 in my area. The phone is new (delivered today) and it does not remember any other networks.

I had the same problem with CyanogenMod before; once I changed the allowed channels number to 13 (in the Settings app), the scan started to work fine.

It is backwards compatible with WPA. I wonder if the encryption? I know those channels will have a higher interference. Does it show up when you try to "join a hidden network"?

Hmm, and today it suddenly shows up after I changed the channel back (11 -> 13). I can't understand this madness :) Does anybody know how OPEN C's radio operates?

more options

The radio app will work with or without a wifi connection and will only play with a headset plugged into it. You can dial the tuner and use the star to bookmark the station for later.

I was talking about the Wi-Fi radio module, not FM receiver :)

Hi choco-banana,

You may find some more specific information on this wiki page:

I couldn't find a module specific to Wi-Fi, but you can also post questions on the dev-b2g discussion forums.

I hope you find this information useful. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks!!
