There are regular Community Calls that explore many open badges topics, including new and ongoing research projects related to badges, and the development of badge systems across numerous sectors:

Join our Open Badges Community Google Group to take part in ongoing conversations about badges in the wild and receive regular email updates and news from the team and community.

Current case studies on Open Badges are available here: http://www.reconnectlearning.org/case-studies/ (Published Feb. 2014).

The Badges for Lifelong Learning Competition was supported by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, with additional support from the Gates Foundation and in partnership with Mozilla. This competition provided up to $2 million in grants for 30 innovative badge systems as part of the Badges for Lifelong Learning Competition.
