I have installed T/bird succesfully on W8. When I try to open it it asks if I want a new email address, so I say no but it returns to the same box
I type in the mailbox set up details and press 'create account' and it returns to the same window asking if I want to set up a new email account. I'm trying to keep my current address.

File > New > Exisitng Mail account or 3bar menu icon > New Messages > Existing Mail Account
- Enter name
- Enter full email address
- Enter the password (same one you use to access webmail account)
- select: 'Remember Password'
- click on 'Continue' button.
The 'Get a new account' button is for asking a third party (nothing to do with Thunderbird) to create a new email address, which you may need to pay for. It is not for creating an accout using an exisitng mail address.
Thunderbird will try to look up configuation settings using its database.
When it locates the info, check it is correct, make sure it has selected the type of mail account you want -pop or imap.
click on 'Manual Config' if you want to change settings. Use 'retest' button to check manually entered settings are correct.
click on 'Done' if all is correct.

Have you logged on to your webmail account and made sure that either the Pop or IMAP forwarding has been selected? Some webmail only issue Pop, other IMAP and some offer both. What is selected in your webmail account? Pop or IMAP?
What are the server settings you are trying to use? Please answer the following.
- Pop or IMAP ?
- incoming server name ?
- port ?
- connection security ? SSL or STARTTLS or none ?
- Authentication method: normal password
- Outgoing server name ?
- port ?
- connection security ? SSL or STARTTLS or none ?
