For no apparent reason, I suddenly can not navigate to google.com from Firefox, or use Google as the search engine on Firefox. It just keeps trying to connect.

I can reach Google.com and use Google as a search engine in Chrome and other web browsers. This problem just started. I can navigate to other sites, only Google seems to be impacted. I do use McAfee SAS which had a major update a few days ago, and did not have this issue for several days after that update.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

1. Clear Firefox's Cache

orange Firefox button or Tools menu > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Offline Storage : "Clear Now"

2. If needed, delete the site's cookies as follows

right-click this page and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

In the search box at the top of the dialog, change the domain to google.com so you can review and remove your google.com cookies

Then try accessing Google. Does that help?

You can also do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
