Hi, The problem: firefox.exe starts, process shows up in process explorer and quits within <1 second. No crashreport, no eventlog-entry, no dialog. Just plain nothing.

The environment: Win 7 Enterprise 64Bit, Standard FF28 Download (tested de, en and de-eu)

Tests: reinstall, starting "firefox.exe -p", deinstall+Reboot+tempdelete+reinstall, tested both with en and DE Download nd with de-EU download for FF28. FF24 ran fine.

I did not try nightly builds for FF29

Ahh ... saw this to late - no, I did only try "safe-mode" for the browser, not on windows. Solved it for me though - - same as above : a) deinstall everything, b) delete tempfiles, %AppData% Files, "Mozilla Firefox" directories c) Install 23.b01 and start firefox d) Help -> About -> "Klick here to update" -> Restart - FF30.b runs fine

Must be something in the FF28+ Installation process, that does not work with my Win7-64Bit-Adminrights Account

P.s. Thanks in advance ;)

Current BETA Download from today does not fix this either

Update 27.3. - FIXED: I installed Firefox 27b09 yesterday. Today, Firefox updated itself to 29.0 Beta and beware - all is working (except KeeFox Addon Integration)

  • sigh*

Moved to a new computer - did a fresh install of FF29 (standardversion) - and the problem is back. FF29 wont start - shows up in Taskmanager for 1-2 seconds then is gone again.

We'll see, wether the beta versions do work ...

  • 29.0b9 - wont work
  • 30.0-b1 Wohoo - at least the crashreporter activates now - to no avail, but at least now I know, the reporter "knows" it crashed ;-)

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Hi Cor-el, thanks, but no. I am operating in an enterprise environment with standardized windows images and a global security infrastructure.

Firefox 24.0 runs fine everywhere, On my coworkers 2months old image, FireFox28 Standard works fine as well. Firefox 27b9 + autoupdate t029b worked on my old one laptop as well, all "Standardversions (28 + 29)" wont.

On my new laptop with fresh win7 image, nothing after FF24 runs currently.

Is there a way to cause "more detailed logoutput" ? like setting "loglevel to debug" in some ini scripts ?

Any luck with booting the computer in Safe Mode?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test.
