I'm able to use firefox at first when I search something in the internet then I close the browser right after I finished. But, when I open it again to open my email. I can't open it anymore. It say "Firefox is still running but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system." I'm starting to experience that problem when I updated my Firefox in version 24.0.

How can I close it if my firefox icon is not highlight sign that it is open?

It is better to use "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit) to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

I opened the links that you have provide but it only apply for windows 7 and below even their kill application step. I'm using windows 8.1 Preview.

Those steps should work in Windows 8 as well.
You can check in the Task manger if there are still running Firefox processes and end them when present.

Does it have any effect if you use Exit in the Firefox menu drop-down list or in the File menu if the menu bar is visible?
