How to reinstall Firefox without old bookmarks?
I was using Firefox on both Windows and Mac, and keeping the bookmarks synchronized using Xmarks. Then, as most people know, Xmarks stopped working. I continued using Windows as my main computer, so my bookmarks there are the most up-to-date, and I've backed them up in an HTML file.
Now I want to stop using Windows and switch to the Mac completely. To get the most up-to-date bookmarks, I uninstalled Firefox in the Mac and then reinstalled v15 so I could put in the up-to-date bookmarks. I've tried this a few times now, but every time I do, it pulls in all the old bookmarks. How can I prevent this, so I can get a naked Firefox and then add the latest bookmarks (the HTML file from Windows)?
I've tried resetting Firefox to its default, but it still keeps my old bookmarks and add-ons. I even found instructions somewhere to open Firefox in safe mode, but then I couldn't find the next command that I was supposed to use.

You can use a JSON backup from the Windows computer to restore (replace) all the bookmarks on the Mac computer.

A reset doesn't work because in cases like this that automatically imports the bookmarks among other data from the previous default profile.
Thanks cor-el,
I read that page before I wrote in for support, but it looked like so much Greek I was looking for an easier way. But I decided I'd give it a go after you suggested it, and I think it worked out right.
Now I have a related question: I have a fair number of duplicate bookmarks from where I added a lot more to Windows (now in the Mac) a long time ago instead of restoring them. Is there a simple way you can recommend that I can get rid of all the dupes?
