Firefox.exe still running in processes after exit

Windows XP The title says it all. Firefox does not exit properly, even using File>Exit. I have to stop the process in Task Manager. All extensions and add-ons have been updated and nothing new has been added (they have all worked OK in the past). Also, Firefox is showing "Up to date"

This can be caused by extensions or plugins that do not close properly.

Weird, the problem seems to have corrected itself. All day yesterday FF would not exit properly so I decided to post my question today. Have just opened and exited FF with no problem (checked Task Manager and saw firefox.exe disappear). There have not been any further updates to add-ons (or FF) in the meantime. Will see if the problem returns.
