Firefox hangs every 10 minutes. Seems like it is updating or something

I am using Firefox version 6 and Windows 7.

Every 10 to 15 minutes I have to take a break using firefox because it hangs, I cant use it for about 40 seconds because it seems like it is updating or doing something else.

I already tried to use firefox without any other programs open, with add ons disabled, in safe mode and I saw a post of someone complainting about this problem and this person suggested to allow firefox on the windows firewall, I did this as well but the problem still persists.

I suspect that some update is causing this because this behaviour started to happen just few days ago but I dont know where the updates are or how to find them.

I am using the firefox default theme and a couple of web developer add ons.

Does anyone know what is the problem or how can I fix this? I would really appreciate any help, thanks.

Hi there, I've been having exactly the same problem for a few weeks now, but I think I've found a solution...

Delete places.sqlite (located in the profiles folder). I don't know why this works, I'm guessing that the file was corrupt or something. It'll get rid of your browsing history and automatically create a new version of the file.

Delete places.sqlite (located in the profiles folder). I don't know why this works, I'm guessing that the file was corrupt or something. It'll get rid of your browsing history and automatically create a new version of the file.

Hi DBE55! It really worked... I lost the icons that I had on the bookmarks toolbar but firefox seems like it is not hanging anymore and I can always put the icons back some other time.

Your link also helped to find the places.sqlite file that you mentioned.
