export folders and emails
I need to export a lot of emails from Thunderbird on an old iMac. It seems the import/export tool is not on the version I have so I have a problem. I need to get a plug-in to do this now. However, the version of TB is very old and I'll need a new version of Thunderbird to install the plug-in... So the question is - if I upgrade the old TB I have, will I keep or lose all my old emails? I need a sure answer to this because I can't lose these old messages. I don't want to import them anywhere, I just exported text or html for file storage.
Reading thru this forum I don't have high hopes, it all seems vague and complex (even tho we're now in 2021, no less, and ye olde issues rattle on and on). But a definitive answer would be useful to help me decide what to do. Thanks.

Just backing up the Thunderbird profile would be sufficient for this. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_backing-up-a-profile
Alternatively take a look at Mailstore. https://www.mailstore.com/en/products/mailstore-home/
Thanks Is there a Mac version of this? Does it save the messages as text/html?
(I know I could check this myself, but for the sake of other readers...)
there are versions of the import export addon going back to V1 or 2 so I would assume you can just get the appropriate version.
For Thunderbird versions before 60 I suggest you use the original authors version you can get from here https://freeshell.de//~kaosmos/mboximport-en.html
