Constant activity hard drive will not turn off WTF

After viewing a few web site my hard drive light is constantly off. 

Killing firefox and restarting will turn off the hard drive for a short while.

I've read several threads on this and nothing make any sense... but lots of people have this problem.... Firefox is screwed up.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.
