When a file is deleted, it actaually remains on HD but can't be seen, right? So how do I get down to that level to restore?

I'm presuming you have excluded thunderbird folders from CCleaner as you do not want that program messing about cleaning up files as it can cause all kinds of problems.

What is actually in the 2mn8f5eo.default profile name folder? Post images and offer info to help understand what is in that folder.

Exit Thunderbird Access : C:\Users\Nick\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\2mn8f5eo.default folder. Post image showing contents of the 2mn8f5eo.default folder if you had Pop accounts: Click on 'Mail' folder This list pop mail accounts and 'Local folders' mail account Post image showing contents of 'Mail' folder.

If you see names of pop mail accounts: Click on pop mail account name You should see mbox files (no extension) and they contain emails and same name folder.msf files which are indexing files. mbox file can be opened using a text editor like Notepad. Open 'Inbox' mbox file. Emails are appended to this in the order downloaded so oldest will be at the top.

Have used CCleaner with TB previously with only a couple of default boxes ticked without any problems however have cleared those so won't be included in future runs. Seldom used anyway. Attached Screenshot1 of Profile page. Can't see a 'Mail' Folder

That profile name folder is missing the Mail folder and issues with other files eg: 'prefs.js' seems to be too small as if it does not contain any details about accounts etc. It is not correct; not usable in current state.

Please check AntiVirus and CCleaner to see if they have any folders and files that have been quarrantined that can be recovered. Please check the 'Recycle Bin' to see if there are any thunderbird folders and files in it.

Are you certain you have never made a backup of profile? No copies ever of all your mail accounts and emails? Do your webmail accounts still contain alot of emails if yes then you need to get them downloaded again.

Start by creating a new profile. Help > Troubleshooting Information Under 'App;ication Basics' click on 'about:Profiles' click on 'Create a new profile' button. click on 'Next' It will auto create a profile with name 'Default User' click on 'Finish'

It should set that new 'Default User' as default profile.

If it doesn't then just below the 'Default User' details, click on the 'set as default profile'. click on 'Launch profile in a new browser' This will open new Thunderbird window on that new profile. Close the older Thunderbird window.

Then you should be able to create mail accounts, check all the Account Settings is correct for the account and then download emails off server.

Hi Toad-Hall

Really appreciate all your help however really out of my 'comfort zone' so have someone with those skills going hands-on with my computer. He has managed to relocate a number of missing emails but not all and what seems to be, most of my 'Address Book'.

He did create a new profile amongst other things and now I need to somehow retrieve my 'sent emails' that I sent during the period I was using the previous 'Profile' that TB put in place after wiping my original Profile.

Did download the 7k emails that were sitting on the Webmail server and have been through them all and stored the one's I wanted to keep into my various TB email folders.

Have compacted all my emails but curiously showing 12.8k emails in my TB Trash now and on the Webmail site it was about 7k emails as I recall but that won't load now, takes forever and then 'times out. It only ever showed 100 at a time and loaded then slower than being on the old 'dial up' method! I'm nervous about deleting my emails off the Webmail server (and in my TB Trash) but if they won't load, doesn't seem I can even if I wanted to.

If I may I'll let you know how things progress from here meanwhile any further suggestions/help is always appreciated.

Thanks again

After auto upgrade, all of my accounts, folders, and emails are missing. Thunderbird kept asking me to create a new email account. I logged into my imap email account, thinking that all I needed to do was log in, but that didn't work and I think I created a bigger mess. My computer is 64bit but the new Thunderbird was 32bit. So, I manually downloaded thunderbird via the web page and installed. Now I get a message that my profile was updated by a newer version of Thunderbird and can not be used by the older version...which I am confused as to how the version I downloaded from the Mozilla thunderbird website could be an older version. I am freaking out because I just don't have time to trouble shoot this. I am extremely frustrated and pissed that this happened.
