Sorry that Firefox is crashing.

Firefox version 49.0 is the latest version now. It came out yesterday, so it may fix the crashing issue that you are experiencing.

Try updating Firefox, via the about page in the Firefox menu or by downloading the latest version of the official Mozilla Firefox download website.

Please let us know if this fixes your issues with crashing.

Wesley, thanks for your reply. Will download and install 49.0, but, why is it starting with 48.0.2 when I go to firefox help, about firefox I get the message that I have the latest update? This happened when 48.0.2 was available and is again happening when 49.0 is available. Why does it keep telling me that the previous version is the current version and I am up to date when I am not??? Until 48.0.2 I could go to help, about and it would update to the latest version for me???

I'm not sure about why 49.0 wasn't offered right away, but I know that Mozilla intentionally disabled updates to 48.0.2 to certain users because of Bug 12946650.

I had previously opened a bug about the 48.0.2 updating issues, so you can refer to bug 1298242 for more information.

For now, please let me know if the crashes occur in 49.0. Thanks.

Thank you will update manually to 49.0 and let you know if it still crashes. maybe I was one of the users mozilla intentionally disabled the updates to 48.0.2. What puzzles me is that on my windows vista laptop it did the update from about firefox to 48.0.2 and to 49.0 with no problems. The Vista computer is 32 bit, while my win 8.1 computer is 64 bit. Wonder if that has anything to do with the problem. However, before 48.0.2 the 8.1 computer had no problems updating from about firefox. For the record just tried to go from 48.0.2 to 49.0 thru about firefox and I still get the message that I am up to date with 48.0.2.

It's my understanding that certain users were blocked from version 48.0.2 to prevent the update from causing startup crashes on systems that met certain specifications. Your Windows Vista laptop may not have been one of the systems at risk for a startup crash with the update, so it may not have had an issues updating.

Thanks, does this mean that 49.0 is causing the same problems on systems that met certain specifications, too? So far no crashes yet with 49.0, but, have only used it for a few minutes now.

I've been discussing it with some other contributors on this forum, but no one seems to know. I don't think that 49.0 has the same update blocking that 48.0.2 had because 49.0 is an update, while 48.0.2 was a patch.

Have you tried again. Sometimes the updates get temporarily turned off and for Windows the upgrade from Fx48 to Fx 49 was turned back on as far as I know yesterday. (Mentioned in a contributors thread https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/contributors/712155?last=70322#post-70304)

John99, Did try yesterday afternoon using about firefox, but, still got message that 48.0.2 was the up to date version, so, as with 48.0.2 I have downloaded and installed 49.0 manually. So far no crashes. Have only used 49.0 for a little while however Guess I will have to wait for the next version to see if it works with about firefox?

A minor patch was just released for Firefox (49.0.1). Give it a few days to see if the update works through the Firefox about page.
