All but 24 of my bookmarks are disappearing when I click show all bookmarks. When I click the "Restore" button it shows that I have 66 bookmarks but when I restore them it then only shows 24. I have done this dozens of times and it always does this.

My old firefox in XP worked great and I never had this problem. I've read lots of stuff about bookmarks but I don't understand computer talk so most of what I've read in meaningless. I just want it to list all of my bookmarks like the old firefox did. How can I look at the 66 bookmarks that my restore says I have? Thank you.

Open a new tab or window. type about:support in the address box and press enter. Or Press the Alt or F10 key to bring up the tool bar. Then Help > Troubleshooting Information.

Under the page logo on the left side you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To it’s right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Enter the bookmarkbackups folder. This is where Firefox makes backups of your bookmarks. Look for the json file you want to restore (check the time / date / size). Right click on that file and select Copy. Now go back to the parent folder where you started. Rename the file bookmarks.html by adding .old to it. Now right click in the folder and select Paste. The file you just pasted here, rename it to bookmarks.html. After you are done, restart Firefox.

Thank you for assisting me.

I went through your process OK until - " Now go back to the parent folder where you started. Rename the file bookmarks.html by adding .old to it."

I assume that the "parent folder" you refer to is "bookmarksbackup" folder???

I went to that folder as well as all the other folders listed there and could not find a file named "bookmarks.html"

I tried a file search from the start menu of my computer for "bookmarks.html" and got nothing.

What am I missing?

No. The parent in this case is the current Firefox profile where you started..

Thanks again for your assistance.

I went through the process to get to "Profile Folder" and "Show Folder" where it listed the "bookmarkbackups" folder and several other folders. I checked every folder there and nowhere could I find a folder named "bookmarks.html".

I don't think that those steps would help. In cases like this there can be a problem with the places.sqlite database file. You can check out the articles that I linked above.

Mr (or Ms) Cor-el,

Thank you very much for the links you provided. I spent hours going through those the last couple days however my lack of computer speak made those articles more confusing than helpful.

Everything I read lead me to believe that those fixes were for problems regarding failing to save bookmarks or the toolbar disappearing ... neither of which is my issue. My computer saves the bookmarks fine ... I just can't figure out how to get the computer to show them all.

I realize that this may just be my ignorance and I was hoping for a fix that could be explained on a level that I could understand however it does not appear that this is going to work for me.

I do appreciate your input ... thank you for trying to assist me.

Did you check all three main folders (Bookmarks Menu, Bookmarks Toolbar, Unsorted) in the Bookmarks Manager (Library) to make sure that those bookmarks are not in a sub folder or in the unsorted bookmarks folder?

Did you try a search?

"Did you check all three main folders ...." : yes - I can see 24 of the 66 bookmarks.

"Did you try a search?" : No ... search for what?

more options

Search for one of the missing bookmarks via the search bar in the Bookmarks Manager.

I did a search with negative results.

I think I'm missing something as I cannot find anything called a "Bookmarks Manager". I have search bars though in the menu and the library and I did the search there.

I'm thinking that its something going on with my computer as I seem to be the only one with this issue. I'll find a computer person to look at this and make sure things are OK.

Thanks for your help.

There is no bookmarks file. Bookmarks and history are combined in the places.sqlite database file.
