You should be using separate Profiles for each different version of Firefox that you have installed.

Did the loss of your passwords happen during the update of Aurora from 31.0 to 32.0? If so, do you still see them in 31.0 Beta?

You should never use the same profile for different Firefox versions and that is even more important with development versions as those can use a newer version and thus run migration code.

Firefox needs to initialize a profile each time you switch the Firefox version.

You can consider to use Sync if you want to share your personal data.

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

Yes, passwords were lost in the update from Aurora 31 to 32. Passwords still show up in Aurora 31, which I have reverted back to, and in Firefox Beta 31, which I also have loaded. Updating to 32 makes them disappear for some reason.

Firefox 32 and later builds store the passwords in the logins.json file in the profile folder.

You can try to force Firefox to reimport the passwords from the signons.sqlite file.

• reset the signon.importedFromSqlite pref on the about:config page to the default value via the right-click context menu
• delete the logins.json file in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed

When you restart Firefox then you should have the signon.importedFromSqlite pref with the value set to true and you should have the passwords imported in the Password Manager unless there may have been errors.

Failures during import, for example due to a corrupt file or a schema version that is too old, will not prevent us from marking the operation as completed.
At the next startup, we will not try the import again.

I had this same issue with Release today.

Do we know if this is a common issue? If so, then we need a SuMo article or even a 31.01 update that guides the user on this process and avoids loss of data.

I think it's inadmissible not to guide the user in a process like this, which _can_ cause a loss of data. People can get crazy. :-)

I did find the answer eventually. The problem lies with the Remember Passwords 1.1 extension.

You need to disable or remove it, as the new version stores passwords in a different place and uses a built-in system to save them.

That extension takes you to a place where your passwords no longer reside. As soon as it is removed, your passwords reappear.

Note that you no longer need the Remember Passwords extension because current Firefox releases ignore autocomplete=off and offer to store the mane and password in such a case.

Note that Firefox won't auto-fill saved form data automatically when autocomplete=off is used, so start typing the user name or possibly double-click the user name field.
