I have Firefox 124.0.2 running on Windows 11. For some reason, I can't update Firefox. When I manually download the update file, it appears to run Ok, but the version doesn't change. If I go to settings and click on "Check for Updates" is comes back and says Failed to Check for Updates. How do I fix this?

Originally reported on April 11th /questions/1444593: I have Windows 11 and the Firefox 124.0.2 browser. I cannot update to the latest version of Firefox. I receive an error message "Failed to update". I've uninstalled and reinstalled the browser, ran the install utility selecting update, nothing seems to work. Please help

My update preference for Firefox is to download but I will install it. But it consistenly (over the last numerous updates) changes it to Automatic. I do not want Automatic updates. I want to control when it updates. I do not see this issue addressed anywhere. I have checked numerous times. Please help! My sincere thank you for your time and attention to my request for help. I started using firefox actively a year back or something like that, last couple of months it started driving me nuts as it started updating every time I launch it, which is very annoying even if it takes only 10 15 seconds, I sometimes need to check something really quick and I have to wait for it to finish installing an update, even though I checked the setting for it to do so in the background, it seems to only do it after I launch it disrupting my workflow, which made me switch back to Chrome temporarily, is there a way to fix this?

Hi jscher2000, I want to thank you for your advice concerning a problem I had downloading Firefox to my Windows 10 laptop. I tried to follow your advice but was not successful. In the end, I googled "what if Firefox doesn't install". It took me to a website, https://www.makeuseof.com/fix-firefox-not-installing-windows , which took me to an article entitled "8 Fixes to Try if Firefox Won't Install on Windows". I tried #1 and #2 without success. #3, Temporarily Disable Your Antivirus Software, worked. Firefox is up and running. Feel free to share this with anyone who has a similar problem. WED 21FEB24 The urgent issue is that in the last few weeks, many web pages do not load content, just a grey or white screen. Some will load the header. I am the Executor for someone's estate, and I am having this trouble with some financial websites that I must access to do the job.

Its been many years since I upgraded anything. It might be that Macintosh Firefox 78.15.0 esr (64 bit) and Thunderbird 60.9.1 are the newest revs that work with OSX 10.11.6 El Capitan. I have a 2011 MacBookPro.

I don't like the changes in the user interface that Apple put into OSX after El Capitan. But I may be forced to upgrade. Too late in life to learn Linux.

Maybe the minimalist solution is to upgrade Firefox. But that may require upgrading OSX, and Apple has made it really hard to do that unless you go to the very newest. OTOH I don't know if the newer OSX will run on my 2011 MacBook Pro. If I clicked on "software update" in About This Mac, what would happen? would it just start doing it, or tell me about it first?

The last time I upgraded something, probably Thunderbird but maybe it was Firefox, I had to learn a complicated process to copy & save the User Profiles (they are in a hidden directory), and then install them into the new rev. I don't want to go through that again. I just want to run the dmg file.

There used to be a Mozilla web page with all the versions & you could download the dmg file you wanted.

If I still have problems, I would have to buy a much newer computer. A several year old MacBookPro. But I don't like the "new" disk formatting method Apple created. It saves space by not actually making copies of files, but uses a pointer to one copy. So there is a single point of failure, which makes copies pointless. I want to keep using OSX Extended (Journaled) and I would have to have the seller of the computer do that for me, before I used Migration Assistant to put my stuff on it. I also hate the welded-on hard drive; being able to pull the drive is the best "broken hardware" solution.

I don't recall if El Capitan has the "OSX Recovery" system or if that happened in a later rev.

I use SuperDuper to make a clone of my hard drive as a backup & archive. I wonder if I could connect a copy on an external drive and then startup using the external copy. Then I could upgrade Firefox and see if it works, then do the same for OSX if necessary, and Thunderbird.

I cannot download & installed any add-ons or themes. After clicking the install button, I always get a red bar saying "Download failed. Please check your connection.". This happens on Firefox, Firefox beta and Firefox nightly.

I did some googling and found similar posts from a few years ago. These seem to suggest I don't have the correct certificate used to verify extension signatures:

I checked my certificates and I don't have anything from "Mozilla Corporation - signingca1.addons.mozilla.org" (there's a screenshot of this cert in the first forum link above), so I think this is indeed the issue? I've attached a screenshot of my cert list where the Mozilla cert should be.

Please note I am on an M3 Pro macbook pro. It's a work laptop and I thought maybe our network settings were interfering with things, but my previous work laptop (Intel) could install add-ons just fine.

Would appreciate some help!

P.S. I found a workaround where I copied over all extension JSON and XPI files from my old laptop. So I am using my previous extensions just fine but still cannot download any new ones. Also I don't have access to my old laptop anymore so can't copy over any new ones.

Can somebody give me a version of firefox for my windows 7 professional (64 bit os) that actually work. I literally downloaded many versions of firefox (esr ones,normal ones) with exe and msi installers. But everyone one of then never works,sometimes it doesn't even install or sometimes it installs but gives error , sometimes it says we're sorry , sometimes it installs but doesn't open nor does it gave any error window. Im getting a headache.Please somebody help me (╥﹏╥)

About a week ago I started getting these update error messages stating "Update available - Firefox couldn't update automatically. Download the new version". I've also tried clicking "Learn more" on the error message but it's a dead link. Going into the settings for updates I am set to auto update, but when I manually check for updates it says "Failed to check for updates".

The help article on this issue simply tells you to download and manually reinstall Firefox, but I'm having to do this nearly every day. I work in IT myself so I know a "bandaid" workaround when I see one. Is there a solution to this issue?

My hp laptop crashed. I was able to remove the hard drive, put it in a sleeve and I trying to find my firefox bookmarks. All of my other files are there. I have tried every path posted online and i still cannot find them. I found two mozilla files but, no bookmarks. Can you assist? I dont know where to look.

Firefox is my longstanding browser (on Windows 10). I wish to make use of the Firefox PDF viewer, but have been unable to gain access to it. If for the purposes of an attachment I click on "Open with", Firefox does not appear among the viewers offered. I'm not tech savvy, so a step by step (idiot's) guide as how I can gain access to and then make use of the Firefox as my default PDF viewer will be greatly appreciated, please.

Had to reformat and reinstall my Intel Mac with System 10.4.11. Can't download install dmg from the ftp site because my id and password don't get me into the FTP website.

I recently got a new computer (HP Dragonfly) and set Firefox as my default browser but when I click on a link from Outlook it opens in Edge. I'm using Windows11. I have: 1) Confirmed in Firefox settings that Firefox is the default 2) Confirmed in Edge settings that Edge is not the default browser 3) Confirmed in Windows default settings that Firefox is the default browser 4) Ensured in Outlook-Options-Advanced that "Open Hyperlinks in from Outlook" is set to "Default Browser" 5) Uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. Also restarted my computer several times And yet, clicking on links from Outlook continues to open Edge. Please help I really don't like Edge!

I cannot acccess firefox/mozilla support or vpn downloads on one of my devices which I am trying to download the vpn. I am logged into my mozilla account on the device but either bing or mozilla may be preventing me

Any ideas?
