For quite some time now I've had keyword.enabled set to false in my about:config because I don't like having the address bar try to autocomplete or turn things into search, when I do a ctrl-l.

I do like that I am still able to use ctrl-k to do a search when I need to. This would place a ? at the start of the field and whatever I type gets sent to search.

In a recent upgrade, ctrl-k still places the ? at the start of the address bar but doesn't send things to search. Instead, it now behaves as if I did a ctrl-l and typed in a bad URL.

I'm on Firefox 80 (on Fedora 32) but I can't be exactly sure which upgrade brought this change in behavior.

Is there a way to get the old behavior back? ctrl-l to enter a URL, ctrl-k to search.

Hi all

Recently I started using FireFox as a snap and found it fantastic, however I found that the GNOME Shell extensions web site and extension does not work with the FF as a snap, I found the following reports talking the same problem for the flatpack version:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1633206

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/2689

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1621763

But I cant find any report on the snap side despite having exactly the same problem, I guess it has to be something related to how to contain the application.

should I fill a Bug with this same problem, but for the snap? or someone here in the community can confirm me that it's a known issue for both the flatpack and the FireFox snap

Thank you

I'm attempting to set the new tab page using the autoconfig.cfg and autoconfig.js files. I have the following (Ubuntu 20.0.4):

/usr/lib/firefox/autoconfig.cfg ``` // set new tab page var {classes:Cc,interfaces:Ci,utils:Cu} = Components; aboutNewTabService = Cc["@mozilla.org/browser/aboutnewtab-service;1"].getService(Ci.nsIAboutNewTabService); aboutNewTabService.newTabURL = "file:///home/Desktop/index.html"; ```

/usr/lib/firefox/defaults/pref/autoconfig.js ``` pref("general.config.filename", "autoconfig.cfg"); pref("general.config.obscure_value", 0); pref("general.config.sandbox_enabled", false); ```

When I restart firefox, a dialogue pops up saying 'Failed to read the configuration file. Please contact your system administrator.' The new tab is unchanged. Am I doing something wrong? I've seen [thread] and believe I've followed everything that was said.

I use multiple Firefox profiles for specific purposes and want to lock certain preferences for the profiles.

I'm aware of the "mozilla.cfg" (in the installation directory, kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences), but that applies to all profiles.

Is there a way to lock preferences per Firefox profile?

Using Firefox 79 and 80, every time I restart the browser any google-based website gives me a "Cookie mismatch" error. I have to clear cookies and relogin every single time - which is problematic.

How can I fix this? Google Chrome does not have this issue.

Prior to Firefox v. 79, when I was developing a web site and needed to clear the cache of cached CSS and javascript files, I could quickly do so using Ctrl+F5.

When v. 79 came out, I had to go into the Web Developer Tools' settings and select "Disable HTTP Cache (when toolbox is open)" or check "disable cache" on the Network Tab. I could have lived with the latter, that's a pretty cool feature. However, with v. 80, that doesn't even work reliably. At times, I have to go into Firefox Preferences -> Privacy and Security -> Clear Data -> Uncheck "Cookies and Site Data" -> and click "Clear."

That's five clicks each time I need to clear the cache while I'm working, when it used to just take a quick Ctrl+F5 key combination.

I've seen some suggestions to disable Firefox caching altogether in about:config, but I don't want to do that because Firefox is my primary browser.

Are there any solutions, or is there a fix forthcoming? I checked Bugzilla and saw some reports of the problem, but didn't see a fix in the works.

Number 9 appears as dashes on some websites as per example above. I also have a network media device and when I use the web interface it does the same.

I have tried the solutions provided in the previous 2 threads but no change. My system is Linux Mint 19.3. Iam asking here as the previous solution was archived and it advised me to start a new thread.

After opening a mp3 file in a new tab, the audio starts playing. When the space-bar is pressed the playback pauses, and when it is pressed again the playback plays.

But when I pause/play the playback with mouse click, the space-bar keyboard shortcut stops working. After this, pressing the space-bar doesn't play/pause the playback.

However, once I reload the tab, the keyboard shortcut starts working again.

The keyboard shortcut works inconsistently.

Please help.

Hello,

I have for now a work flow where I share my bookmarks between different firefox profiles, without any acces to web/net/cloud/whatever..., all is local to my computer. This works well with an old firefox version. But, because there is a but. I'm blocked in this situation. My firefox version is 60.9.0esr. I can't go higher because starting with firefox version 62, there where changes that prevent concurrent access to sqlite databases.

I did some search in addons to try to find an alternative, without success. I also already done a research in previous support questions, without success too.

So, maybe someone have an idea or suggestion, to help me achieve that, or something similar, with newer firefox version. I need to upgrade to something more up to date.

Thanks in advance, K.

So, I have been looking for lots of solutions but none of them worked. I'm using Ubuntu 20.04 and want to install and update Firefox Dev automatically. I tried some ways:

  • By package manager:

First, I uninstalled the default Firefox, removed its ppa repo then added Firefox Dev ppa and installed. Opened up and it was still normal Firefox.

  • By downloading .deb file from Mozilla:

I could install by this way but every time has an update, Firefox will notify me "Firefox can't udpate to the latest version. Download a fresh copy of Firefox". I also have Chrome to be installed via .deb, it can update automatically. Why Firefox can't? It's very annoying that every time I open Firefox, it pops the notification up. It's impossible that every time Firefox has an update (which occurs regularly!) I have to go to homepage, download then install it manually. I can write a script to update Firefox but I want an official support from Mozilla.
