Problem launching firefox with same profile from the command line and from a java application

We are launching firefox from the command line with a specific profile. We sometimes also need to launch firefox from a java application using that exact same profile. But when we do that, we get the error:

"Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To use Firefox, you must first close the existing Firefox process, restart your device, or use a different profile."

We do not get the error when launching from the java application if firefox was not previously started from the command line.

To say that again another way, - If we launch firefox from the command line two times, each time with the same profile, it works fine. - If we launch firefox from the Java application two times, each time with the same profile, it works fine. - But if we launch firefox from the command line then launch firefox from the java application, firefox won't launch due to the error above.

This is firefox 91.13.0esr 64-bit on Linux (CentOS 7).

Thank you for any help you can give.

I am using firefox on a debian installation base: $ firefox-esr --version Mozilla Firefox 91.13.0esr $ uname -a Linux debian 5.10.0-18-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 5.10.140-1 (2022-09-02) x86_64 GNU/Linux $ These days web pages come with all kinds of cr@p; so, at times you need to just get all the links inside the page to parse/eyeball them. What I do is grab the "page source" and/or use "Link Gopher". I have been noticing lately that they don't work anymore. Why? The problem seems to relate to javascript generated pages. When you try to see the source all you see is some javascript one liner.

Of course, firefox must have a way to show the source since it shows to you the actual page unencrypted. Which settings in about:config should you change in order to be able to "go to the source" again? lbrtchx

I use the Multi-Account Containers add-on, and I had about a dozen custom containers.

Earlier today, while investigating a potential browser bug, I disabled the Multi-Account Containers add-on to verify the bug is not caused by it. (It wasn't.)

Then I re-enabled the Multi-Account Containers add-on, only to find that my custom containers are gone. I was not expecting this :(

Is there a way to recover those custom containers, and related data such as rules for which sites should be opened in them?

What happens if I click sign out if I don't have access to the email where I can click sign out of and the email in the manage email account is a different one entirely. What email would I be signing out of and which email is synced with all my tabs and history? I don't want to lose access to all the saved options and sites and everything attached to my desktop browser but I don't have access to the first email listed.

Explain to me any possible reasons why my browser is appearing to other websites to be an older unsecure version of firefox when everything on my end and mozilla website says I have the latest version. How can I access certain sites I need to use that won't let me continue because my browser is not up to date when my browser gives me no option to update and the only newer one is probably the incomplete beta test version anyway

I like to keep a copy of all my passwords, just in case. Maybe I get a new computer, or, maybe something gets corrupted or accidentally deleted, ... etc. I've been using computers for a long time and ... Stuff Happens.

I wish Firefox made things a little more user-friendly.

When exporting passwords, the default file name is just "logins". Sure, I can rename it to something more sensible, like "Firefox Passwords 2022-09-27", but, shouldn't Firefox automatically do that for me?

The only file format options are .csv and .xml, both of which are completely useless for the average person.

Sure, I can import the .csv file into Excel, and then spend a lot of time stripping out all the unnecessary stuff, but again, shouldn't Firefox do that for me? When I export passwords Firefox warns me that the file is readable by anyone, so, why not just export something a little more sensible and usable.

A plain text file where each line just consists of

URL     Username     Password

I'm a little disappointed that there doesn't seem to be any way to submit feature requests directly to Mozilla, but hopefully someone will see this and consider it.
