FF 14: why is the home button on the right hand side of the screen now? Where is the drop down "back" arrow/menu that was to the left of the address bar?

I'm really sick and tired of software companies trying to fix what isn't broken. I don't want to have to spend hours reading through links and forums trying to find out how to configure software to what I had before, like, and was used to. How hard is that to understand?

You want to make the software more secure, fix bugs etc.? Great, do it, just don't mess around with every other damned feature in the process. MS is a perfect example of this pointless tinkering with user interfaces, done for no other reason than to keep people busy who would be better employed on something of substance. Sometimes you can't re-invent the wheel folks.

Do you really think FF users want to have to learn AGAIN how to use the damn program? We have better things to do .

Now, to get down to specifics: why is the home icon/button now on the right hand side of the screen? Completely counter-intuitive. Where is the "down arrow" that used to allow me to quickly revert to a previous page without opening "history"?

If you want to find something useful for the graphics folks to do, why not have them go through this forum database and organize it by version so that when I look for answers to my question, I don't have to wade through five year old questions about FF 3.6 to find what I'm looking for??

And where is icon that used to be in the address bar that I could drag and drop onto my desktop to create a shortcut from there??

And where is the Options>Customize Toolbar feature that some of those ancient Q&As mentioned above referred to?

Oh, and the "Refresh" icon? Where the H has that gone?

About the same as making the speedometer an optional feature on a car's dashboard folks.

From the nature of your questions, you must have just updated from Firefox 3.6.x.

Home icon/button and Back/Forward button:

Site Identity Button. The Site Identity Button has changed to prevent hackers from possibly faking a legitimate site icon. You can still drag the globle/lock/warning icon to bookmark a site just as you did in the past

View > Toolbars > Customze. Firefox button > Options > Toolbar Layout or to see the Menu Bar, press the ALT or F10 key and make selections from there.

Combined Go/Stop/Reload button

  • See --> https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/common-questions-after-upgrading-firefox-36#w_what-happened-to-the-back-forward-refresh-and-home-buttons
  • In Firefox 4 and newer versions, the Go, Stop and Reload buttons are combined in one button at the right end of the URL or Address bar. The button changes depending on the activity:
    • green Go arrow when typing in the address bar
    • red Stop ("X") button while page is loading
    • gray Reload (circular arrow) when page is finished loading.
  • Separate buttons are possible:
    1. Open Customize Toolbar window by clicking Firefox button > Option > Toolbar Layout OR clicking View > Toolbars > Customize if using the Menu Bar OR right-click in an empty space on a toolbar and choose Customize
    2. While the Customize window is open, Stop and Reload buttons will show separated between the address bar and the search bar
    3. While the Customize window is open, drag the buttons anywhere on the Navigation toolbar
      • order Reload-Stop will combine into one button
      • order Stop-Reload will remain separate buttons
      • or drag a "Separator" from the Customize window between Reload-Stop and they will remain separate
    4. click Done at bottom right of Customize window to finish

I don't actually have an answer for you, but ditto on changing things that aren't broken. Drives me crazy!!

Comments/complaints regarding the user interface will not be seen by the developers as they do not visit this forum. Major user interface changes occurred beginning in Firefox 4. released March 22, 2011.

Though undoing recent user interface changes is unlikely to occur. you can send short comments to developers by using Help > Submit Feedback.

Where is the "down arrow" that used to allow me to quickly revert to a previous page without opening "history"?

A lot of the UI changes were made with the idea that the toolbars were chewing up valuable screen real estate that could be used by pages. To save space the little downward pointing triangle was removed and you now right-click or click-and-hold the back button to get the history list.

A second add-on to display a downward-pointing triangle (in addition to the one listed above) is: Back/forward dropmarker (I haven't tried it myself).

why not ... go through this forum database and organize it by version so that when I look for answers to my question, I don't have to wade through five year old questions about FF 3.6 to find what I'm looking for??

Knowledge base articles are version sensitive, but the forum is not, partly because people often do not know exactly which version they are using, or they post from a different browser than they are asking about, or they skipped some versions.

You can do a rough version cutoff using the Created after criterion on the advanced search form and/or by adding : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/search?a=2#support

You also can target the forum from Google. For example: back button drop-down site:support.mozilla.org/questions -inurl:filter -inurl:tagged - Google Search

You can hold down the left mouse button on an enabled Back or Forward button until the tab history list opens or right-click either B/F button to open the list.
The current active entry has a bullet in front of it.
If you hover an entry in the tab session history list with the mouse then you see an arrow at the left side pointing left (Back) or right (Forward) to show the direction.
You can left click an item to open it in the current tab or middle-click or Ctrl left-click an entry in that list to open that link in new tab, just like you can with other links.
