I'm asking my question here because I am not sure whether that is a bug with Thunderbird (as suggested by similar topics found with a quick online search) or with my system.

I am currently using Thunderbird 115.9.0 on an Arch Linux system with kernel Linux 6.8.4-arch1-1 and GNOME 46 with Wayland.

The problem is: The compose message window immediately loses focus when I click at it. Closing the main window doesn't help (or any other open window for that matter). I can still type and some of the buttons still work (tested Save and Send) but I can't edit recipients and I can't close the window (attempting to closes other open windows instead).

Things that were recommended elsewhere and that I tried to no avail: - clearing the cache - updating thunderbird and my system (already up to date) - moving the window to another workspace/closing all other open windows - restarting (duh)

I think this problem is with Thunderbird because I don't experience focusing issues with other programs.

I am also happy to provide additional info if someone wants to write an actual bug report. I was just scared off by the requirements of Bugzilla.

Error collecting mail on some accounts

When I attempt to retrieve mail (from some accounts) I receive the error message "account being processed, please wait until completion to download the messages" (see att.). Even after a long time (hours) the same happens - so I have to use my phone or IMAPS to get my messages. This happens only since I upgraded to Supernova (currently 115.7.0) and apparently on mail server orange.fr (but not all my mail accounts on orange.fr). I did not change (manually) any setting. Other mail servers (including wanadoo.fr which is an orange.fr mail server) seem to work ok. Thanks for any help & BR Max.

Here's the error:

Error sending message. Error sending mail: Outgoing mail server (SMTP) error. The server responded: Cannot connect to SMTP server ip (ip), connect error 10060.

A week or so ago I patched Thunderbird (115.8.0 (64-bit)). Everything seemed fine and I proceeded to empty the TRASH. It took an unusually long time to delete the roughly 175 messages in the TRASH. Then the screen "blinked" and when Thunderbird reappeared the SENT fold, while present, showed that it contained NO emails. I have sent about 50 emails since this occurred and the counter on the SENT folder continues to show the the folder contains no emails.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get things to work again?

Thunderbird is often asking again to log into Gmail and Outlook accounts.

A few days ago the accounts I have were "disconnected" and a few days later, randomly some accounts ask me again to log in and allow access to email.

I have about 20 emails managed with Thunderbird and after a few versions (about 3-4 months) this problem started to happen.

Has anyone else reported something similar?

An observation is that I use MozBackup to make complete backups of emails (including login and password) and restore them after formatting the computer.

I was trying to "repair" folder and also completely reintstall thunderbird - nothing changed. Could someone give an advise how to solve this?

After adding an online calendar (Remember the Milk task manager/todo list), Thunderbird locks up. Nothing works. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the app with no solution to the problem. Windows' Task Manager shows Thunderbird using an awful lot of CPU resources and the amount does not seem to decrease, even if I leave everything alone. I don't know if this is one of those Lightning bugs I've read about but, whatever it is, Thunderbird is useless to me now. Suggestions?

I switches between my Linux and Mac Notebook once a day. Everytime i switch a specific email gets moved to the junk folder. Then i mark it as not junk. As long as i stay in this client everything is fine. When i switch the notebook the client on this system marks this email as junk again. When i mark it as non junk and switch to the other system this email gets marked as junk again.

How can i mark it on both as non junk so this behaviour described above does not happen again?

Two Gmail accounts in Thunderbird, occasionally emails stop coming through

For some time I have been using Thunderbird with three email accounts one of which is a Gmail account. This has generally worked OK. Every weeks or so a message came up… (pročitajte više)

For some time I have been using Thunderbird with three email accounts one of which is a Gmail account. This has generally worked OK. Every weeks or so a message came up asking me to allow Thunderbird to access my Google account to which I always said “Allow”. I call this message the “Google panel”. I am guessing this comes up whenever Thunderbird updates or whenever Google make some change. It is a bit irritating but I can live with it. Recently I have added in a second Gmail account, and since I have done this I have had a lot more problems. When the Google panel described above comes up I have to choose which of the two Gmail addresses it is asking me to allow access. There doesn’t seem to be any way of knowing which one has made the request so I choose one of the two listed at random, if I guess correctly then everything continues normally but if I guess incorrectly I get an error (404). The good news is that if I guess incorrectly the panel reappears within a few seconds and selecting the other account sorts everything out. The more serious problem is that from time to time emails from one of the two accounts just stop coming through. A dialog box with the message “The STAT command did not succeed. Error getting message number and sizes. Mail server pop.gmail.com responded: [AUTH] Invalid credentials” appears. This has happened to both of the accounts at different times for no obvious reason. After this happens it stays that way until the Google panel appears for the email address that has stopped working. This can take a couple of weeks. The only sure way that I've found to resolve this before the panel comes up is to clear the passwords for that account out of the password manager (Settings > Privacy and Security > Passwords > Saved Passwords). Then when I request Get Messages I am asked to allow Google to access the account, and once that has been done the account works again. This is obviously inconvenient and a fix that requires frequent implementation is not desirable. Even if I clear out all the passwords for both Gmail accounts and start fresh it is normally within a week that one of the accounts stops working as described above.

Some other facts about my setup:

   Cookies are enabled (Settings > Privacy & Security, Accept third-party cookies)
   I have it set up to store incoming emails from all accounts in a folder in Local Folders so I have a single inbox containing all incoming messages from all my accounts.
   I use POP not IMAP
   I leave the PC running overnight so Thunderbird is open continuously
   I have two other non-Gmail accounts as well as the two Gmail ones
   I have a Windows 11 PC and am currently using Thunderbird version 115.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can prevent these problems and have both accounts running reliably?

I haven't done anything new recently (no new add-ons, no changes of any kind...) but all of a sudden Thunderbird is extremely slow. Clicking from one folder to the next takes a few seconds, clicking from one email to the next takes a few seconds...

I've compacted all folders, repaired all folders, made sure I'm up to date (115.8.0 (64-bit)), so I'm not sure what else to do.

The folders I'm working in are all 1 GB or less.

I have 2 active extensions; remove duplicate messages and smart templates. Disabling them did not help.

What I did notice, and I assume this is part of the problem, but can't be certain, is that after doing a repair on my inbox, dozens of emails suddenly appeared in the inbox (that had previously been filtered and moved to other folders). Things did speed up for a little while, but then slowed down again. Repairing inbox again caused filtered messages to appear in the inbox.

In other words, I've been working as normal, messages have been filtering to the appropriate folders as they come in (never showing the inbox just going right to the subfolder), but suddenly these messages (after repairing my main inbox) are now appearing in my inbox, at the time they originally came in (they are still in the subfolders as well).

Any thoughts as to what's going on here?

Hi, I hope some one can help.

Probably for over a year, once a week when I start Thunderbird in 2 of my inbox's, I get the message "building summary file for inbox". When this happens, a few emails will disappear that are new. Sometimes they will come back broken in to a number of sperate emails all containing text.

I can access the emails by logging into my hosts webmail portal, but they seem to be lost for ever on Thunderbird.

I use TB to access 4 different email accounts and this only happens on the 2 that have alot of emails in the inbox (approx 1800 and 4000).

Are there solutions to this, is this a known problem?

This is the second time I have had to downgrade Thunderbird because of my emails not showing. Any of them no matter what folder. Last time it happened I skipped an upgrade and everything worked properly but I only hope the same applies this time. I have used Thunderbird for must be over 20 years so not a newbie. Fedora 39 (64Bit) with all current updates and Thunderbird 115.3.1 (64-bit) after downgrading from 115.8.1. Years ago I contemplated writing my own email client but decided against it. Two things in programming KISS = keep it simple stupid and if it isn't broken DON'T fix it. Thunderbird for me had been rock solid for so many years that I am now very disappointed. Thanks though to all the good programmers of the past

I had left open a number of old email tabs open to refer back to them when I need to. I was too impatient when I opened Mozilla Thunderbird and now these tabs are blank with no information or text showing. Is there any way of repairing this? It has also been slow in loading and in sending and receiving emails.
