First, I am supporting a family member, who has TB configured on two separate machines. Configuring for Comcast IMAP+SMTP, in the usual manner; nothing esoteric about that, all very routine.
Machine A seems to be working okay, no errors. TB up to date on this machine, connected over an ethernet wire, if that makes any difference.
Machine B, getting spam prompted over IMAP 1014 errors. No other information is provided than 1014.
I have tried dropping the account configuration hundred percent, restarting TB, re-adding the account configuration, to no avail. Still spam 1014 errors.
I did happen to notice TB needed an update, so I did that as well. Still 1014 errors.
I have also tried dropping that email saved password from the saved passwords, and responding to the subsequent re-enter password prompt. Also to no avail.
What if anything might have changed, and how can we contend with this? What is so corrupt, do we need to be mucking around in any AppData files, roaming files, etc?
We are not the only ones, apparently, to have bumped into this issue. Not sure if this is also Comcast specific, since a recent TB and/or IMAP specification change, i.e. maybe we try with a gmail account, for instance.
Wondering also, is it IMAP and/or Comcast somehow tieing Machine A to the IMAP and not releasing that association? Knowing a little bit about IMAP in this regard. And/or somehow now prohibiting Machine B+ from establishing a connection?

I like to download my emails to my computer (and keep copies on the server, too). I thought that was what I was doing, since I can view my emails when offline, but maybe I'm just accessing the cached copies?
Will I lose my old emails if I clear the cache?

I've been noticing apparent duplicate messages within my unified folders inbox on my desktop recently.
Looking further I notice that one of my accounts has 'INBOX' as one of its subfolders which is where the problem appears to stem from. When I look at that account in isolation (ie not in unified folders) I can still see the inbox as a subfolder.
The subfolder 'INBOX' appears to be a duplicate of the account's main inbox (it contains the same number of emails), which may account for the appearance of duplicates.
At a guess this is probably related to inadvertent moving of folders. I find that when trying to use the scroll bar (to scroll down the subfolder list), if the mouse strays slightly to the left it will pick up a subfolder and move it unintentionally. This can cause all sorts of problems with disappearing emails and the folder structures showing differently on different computers.
In this case the duplicate email problem only happens on my desktop. On my laptop I can still see a subfolder named 'INBOX' but it shows as empty and I don't see the duplicate emails in unified folders.
It would be really useful if Mozilla could introduce a 'confirm folder move' feature as that would eradicate inadvertent moves.

After over half an hour I have found that the term I was looking for is "advanced search", available via a keyboard shortcut. I cannot possibly remember keyboard shortcuts, why do I have to log on to my Mozilla account just to find out how to do it? There should be a comprehensive user manual that I can download for looking up this sort of thing offline?

Hi, after reading the documentation i read that that automatic filters only apply to inbox and archive.
Hi have the following issue : sometimes i have fake positive for spam but these message are flooded in real spam. Some job offers answer can be in such folders.
Therefore i created a blacklist filter for spam so as to ease my spam review.
Unfortunately i i have to manually run them. Long time ago i had to go to message filters and then select the folder. Now i can easily click on the "Run filters on folder", option/alt T+R is also nice i am really grateful for that.
- Would it be possible to allow automatic run of filter on some specific/explicit directories ? (after thinking my question twice i understood that checking for circular rules can be very complicated, maybe a warning if a message is to be processes twice by the same rule) - Maybe add a one click shortcut ? button ? - An easy export/sync from/to imapfilter ?

So- I am receiving regular emails with jpg attachments from IP security camera, sometimes jpg is displayed, sometimes not, at the same time using mobile phone email app or on my win10 pc other email app it shows just fine. Also strange that when I try to open the attachment with faststone image viewer- nothing happens at all, if I try to save the attachment, it is saved, but the size is 0 bytes, though in a message view it shows as 241 KB. I have tried solution from https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1404538 and no difference, seems like a bug. Today I noticed that not only jpg, but also pdf files sometimes have the same issue. Email provider is outlook.com

I recently moved to using Thunderbird for my emails on an iMac running MacOS High Sierra. I am baffled by the number of email erasure/disposal options I was suddenly presented with, namely: 1. A "Trash" folder, with trash bin icon; 2. A "Junk" folder with a flame icon; 3. A "Junk" folder with no icon; 4. A "Junk E-mail" folder with no icon. Confusingly, some of these folders are not provided with an "Empty deleted/junk" option! Can I completely delete folders 3 and 4 (the one without an icon)? And finally, how can I set things up so that the deleted and junk folders are automatically emptied at set intervals?

Si ce correspondant utilise une autre de ses adresses mails, Bxxxx, le courrier arrive normalement. Je rectifie chaque fois le statut de ce correspondant, je le déclare comme acceptable, je le déplace de la quarantaine vers le courrier entrant sans succès même si je ferme TB et le ré-ouvre ensuite. Où chercher? J'ai regardé les occurrences ouvertes par la recherche à partir de "quarantaine" et je n'y vois pas de solution. Win7, TB à jour. Merci

I've appreciated using Thunderbird for an ad-free Hotmail experience for quite some time. I've changed my Hotmail password every few weeks lately and Thunderbird worked fine when I entered the new password at the prompt when Thunderbird started.
Just now however, I needed to get into my Microsoft account that uses the same password as my Hotmail account. My login to Microsoft failed. Trying to understand why, I looked in Thunderbird at the saved password for Hotmail's server:

https://outlook.office.com/POP.AccessAsUser.All https://outlook.office.com/SMTP.Send offline_access)
The saved password was a 464 character long ASCII string totally irrelevant to the password I'd selected for Hotmail and Microsoft.
I went through the password change process for Hotmail, was then able to get into my Microsoft account and restarted Thunderbird. As usual, Thunderbird asked for the new password. I entered it and was then able to receive new mail from the Hotmail server in Thunderbird. However, again, the saved password in Thunderbird for Hotmail was not the password I'd entered.
Next, I deleted the saved passwords in Thunderbird, restarted it and this time it prompted me to be sure I'd downloaded it from a reliable source. I've never seen that prompt before. It came with my Linux Mint installation, so I thought it would be safe, but again there's an irrelevant password saved for my Hotmail account.
It's like it eventually changes my password for Hotmail and Microsoft since I can get mail through Thunderbird with the odd password it saves, but if I use what should be my password for Hotmail or my Microsoft account via a web page interface, the password doesn't work.
I'll have to stop using Thunderbird if this continues.
